MALAKAND: On the directives of Deputy Commissioner Malakand Muhammad Fayyaz Khan Sherpao, Assistant Commissioner Dargai Riaz Mehsud on Monday conducted inspections of food prices and quality in Dargai and Sakhakot markets. During the visit, officials reviewed the sale of daily-use items in accordance with officially notified rates, and examined the quality of goods and cleanliness arrangements at various shops. As a result of the inspection, eight shopkeepers were arrested for overcharging and selling substandard and unhygienic items. They were shifted to the lock-up and cases were registered against them under relevant laws. Unhealthy food items were confiscated and destroyed on the spot. Additional Assistant Commissioner Dargai Tariq Aziz was also present during the operation. Officials said such actions would continue on a regular basis to ensure relief to the public during Ramazan, adding that overpricing and the sale of defective items would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
