Excise officials on Wednesday claimed to have foiled an attempt to smuggle illegal and harmful drugs.
According to a statement, SHO Imad Khan of the Excise Police Station, Mardan Region, along with other personnel, foiled an attempt to smuggle illegal and harmful drugs during an operation near the Rashakai Interchange.
During the search of an Alto car, a large quantity of illegal and prohibited pills of various brands was recovered.
The accused was arrested on the spot, while the seized drugs were handed over to the Drug Regulatory Authority (DRA) for further investigation and legal action. A case has been registered against the suspect.
The recovered drugs included Vega, Cobra, Black Cobra, Cialis, Double Fox, Pangra and other similar products.
These pills are neither approved by the Drug Regulatory Authority nor do they have any authentic record regarding their ingredients, manufacturing process, shelf life or possible side effects.
According to officials, the use of such illegal drugs poses serious risks to human health. Potential hazards include heart disease, extreme fluctuations in blood pressure, damage to the liver and kidneys, nervous disorders, hormonal imbalance, mental stress, loss of consciousness and, in some cases, sudden death.
Authorities have warned the public to avoid the use of unregistered and unapproved medicines.
