First phase of olive plantation completed in two villages of Jamrud, district Khyber, agriculture department official informed. Field Assistant, Jamrud Naveed Khan Afridi said that under the olive plantation promotion scheme in merged districts, the saplings of olive were planted on five acres of land in Jamrud, comprising three acres in Shahkas and two acre in Hosay village of Ghundi.
The saplings were high standard and Italian certified with best production and capable enough to combat unfavorable and rough weather, he added. Highlighting the importance of olive farming he said that the purpose of plantation was to enhance olive production and to sensitize the local farmers to grow cash crops.
He vowed that the initiative will certainly encourage olive planting in Khyber will cause employment and additional income for the agriculturalists community.
