Fake medicine unit unearthed in Peshawar

The drug control team in a joint operation with the district administration on Wednesday unearthed a unit allegedly involved in manufacturing fake medicines on Peshawar’s Dalazak Road.
The raid on the unit allegedly involved in manufacturing spurious ayurvedic medicine was conducted on the directions of Directorate General Drug Control and Pharmacy Services Khyber Pakhtunkhwa department of Health, said a press release.
It said that large quantities of packing and raw materials of medicines have been recovered from the unlicensed factory.
Chief Drug Inspector Khushal Khan said that the owner of the illegal unit has been taken into custody for investigation, adding the accused was involved in manufacturing fake medicines of reputed brands of multinational and national medicine firms including injection Risek, Capsules Accutane, Velosef, Syrup Coferb.
Counterfeit medicines of Tablets Nitrofurantoin, Zicon DS, and many other brands were seized by the team during the course of action.
The Directorate General of Drugs KP has launched a comprehensive crackdown on the units involved in fake medicines of national and international pharmaceuticals across the province.
Health department officials said that a case has been registered against the arrested owner.
