Federation again put on notice for filing reply in the case against Christian Marriage act

ISLAMABAD : Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notice to the federation again for filing reply in the case against Christian Marriage Act.

The court has summoned reply from secretary law and justice and secretary ministry of religious affairs.

The case came up for hearing before IHC bench led by the Chief Justice (CJ) IHC Athar Minallah Thursday.
The Christian citizens, Shahzad Francis and Sabir Machal, the petitioners took up the plea that a Christian cannot divorce his wife unless he proves allegations against her under Christian Marriage Act. This act runs contrary to fundamental rights and international norms of ethics. Therefore the court should nullify section 3 and 18 of Christian marriage act 1872 as these sections are in conflict with articles 4, 9, 25 and 35 of the constitution,

The court was also prayed to set aside this act being in clash with fundamental human rights.

The court while issuing notice to the federation adjourned the hearing of the case.

The court also accepted the plea of Deputy Attorney General Syed Tayyuab for giving more time to file the reply.
