The Ladies Teachers Welfare Association rejected the closure of private educational institutions in Hayatabad by the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) and termed the move an injustice to the poor and cruelty to women teachers.
Addressing a press conference on Monday at Peshawar Press Club (PPC), the President of the association Seema Jamil and Secretary Sazia Saeed demanded that the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Provincial Minister of Education protect the educational institutions and reconsider the closure.
They claimed that the decision will deprive hundreds of women teachers from their jobs.
They criticized the government’s contradictory actions, claiming to protect women’s rights while making them unemployed.
Did we vote for Tehreek-e-Insaf so that they could close the doors of employment for our women? Can the government provide us with employment? If it cannot, then what is the justification for closing these educational institutions? Public governments never engage in such actions. It is important to send a message to the provincial government that the Director General PDA should cease its anti-educational activities and create a conducive environment for the educational institutions of the people of Hayatabad.
They demanded that the decision to close the schools be reconsidered and that they be allowed to function until proper arrangements are made for them.
The association threatened to start a protest movement, setting up a camp in front of the provincial assembly until their demands are met.
