First-ever five-day literary festival empowers women writers

The inaugural “Peshawar Literary Festival,” spanning five days and exclusively dedicated to women writers from the province, took place at the District Council Hall here on Monday.
The event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Benazir Women University and Dosti Welfare Organization, with the primary goal of fostering fa deeper connection between women and literature.
The distinguished guest of honor, Peshawar Mayor Haji Zubair Ali, joined as Chief Guest the ceremony, which was graced by Parveen Azam Khan, the spouse of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. During the festival, Vice-Chancellor of Benazir Women University, Professor Dr. Safia, officially welcomed the participants and announced plans for 50 diverse sessions across various locations.
Women writers and literature enthusiasts from across the province enthusiastically participated in this festival. Notably, special guest Parveen Azam Khan emphasized the diverse linguistic backgrounds of women involved, including Pashto, Urdu, Hindi, and other regional languages.
The significance of such gatherings was underscored during the event, with renowned TV and radio anchor and writer Bushra Farrukh shedding light on the portrayal of women in literature. The festival featured presentations of works and poems by women poets.
In his speech, Peshawar Mayor Haji Zubair Ali noted the city’s efforts to create designated parks for women and expressed the intention to continue organizing similar events for women in the future. He acknowledged the indispensable role of women in various social activities and highlighted their achievements not only in literature but across all facets of life.
