Focus on education spending, reforms despite challenges: Faisal Tarakai

The provincial minister for elementary and secondary department Faisal Khan Tarakai has said that despite economic challenges, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is maintaining its education budget and introducing initiatives to enhance literacy rates, particularly in merged districts.
Speaking at the International Literacy Day event at University Public School Peshawar, the Minister highlighted the PTI government’s education reforms, citing improved results and increased literacy rates. However, he stressed the need for collective efforts to bring out-of-school children into the education system.
KP’s education minister shared that the province was spending 21 percent of its total budget on education, demonstrating a significant commitment to the sector.
This substantial investment reflects the government’s priority on education and its determination to improve the province’s literacy rates and educational outcomes.
Education Minister KP emphasized teachers’ responsibility in character development and digital literacy programs.
“The government is launching an education card program, increasing EATA scholarships to 550, and implementing a Rented Building School Program. Additionally, ALP centers are being established in religious schools, and thousands of schools are being upgraded. An e-transfer policy has also been introduced for merit-based teacher transfers.
The event, organized in collaboration with various institutions, featured addresses by Secretary Education Masood Ahmed, Managing Director Merged Areas Education Foundation Mian Ainullah, and other speakers.
The Minister also participated in an awareness walk and inspected stalls set up at the event.
