The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority on Wednesday took notice of reported food poisoning incidents and sealed a food outlet in Haripur after recovering substandard and expired items, officials said.
A spokesperson said the authority acted on reports circulating on social media and carried out a prompt operation in Haripur in coordination with the district administration.
The food safety team visited the affected area and also inspected the Trauma Center Haripur, where they met those affected and gathered details about the incident.
During the operation, officials raided a food outlet, Shahi Pizza, located in a local shopping area. The inspection revealed poor hygiene conditions in the kitchen.
Authorities said stale chicken, expired soft drinks, and substandard and mislabelled food items were recovered and taken into custody.
The outlet was sealed on the spot, and legal proceedings were initiated against the owner over serious violations.
Director General of the authority, Kashif Iqbal Jillani, appreciated the team’s swift action and said no leniency would be shown to those endangering public health.
He added that strict enforcement measures would continue across the province to ensure the availability of safe and quality food to the public.
