FPCCI & livestock, fisheries & cooperatives department KP agree on cooperation for the development of livestock to boost the sector

Secretary Livestock, Fisheries & Cooperatives Dr. Amber Ali Khan visited FPCCI Capital Office, Islamabad for a meeting with Amin Ullah Baig Vice President FPCCI and Chairman Capital Office, and Umar Masood ur Rehman Vice President FPCCI at Capital Office Islamabad.
During the briefing Dr. Amber told that the livestock sector occupies a unique position in the national and provincial agenda of economic development of the government. The sector provides a net source of foreign earnings.
Historically livestock has been the subsistence sector dominated by small holders to meet their needs of milk, food security and daily cash income.
Therefore, livestock is considered a more secure source of income for the small farmers and landless poor and is a source of employment generation at the rural level.
It also helps to reduce income variability, especially in cases of crop failure due to a variety of causes. Livestock is central to the livelihood of the rural poor in the province and can play an important role in poverty alleviation. It can uplift the socioeconomic condition of province rural masses.
He also said that the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry shall focus on the Livestock and agriculture along with industrial sector, Fisheries & Cooperatives Department of KPK is ready to corporate with the apex trade body of Pakistan and agree to extend fullest cooperation for the development of livestock, and fisheries Products to boost this sector.
Amin Ullah Baig Vice President of FPCCI and Chairman of Capital Office, and Umar Masood ur Rehman Vice President of FPCCI said that the livestock sub-sector is vital for the economy as it provides essential raw materials.
Pakistan being an Agricultural Economy has great potential in Livestock and fisheries. They further said that The Livestock Sector occupies a unique position in the socio-economic development of the country.
It plays an important role in the rural economy. Livestock contributes approximately more than 55 % to the agriculture value added and more than 10% to the national GDP and is increasing year to year.
The need of the time is to educate people more and more and make them realize to take Livestock, Poultry, and Fisheries as their core business rather than only keeping it as a byproduct of Agriculture so that we might enjoy the full fruit of this Potential Sector.
Dr. Amber Ali Khan, Secretary of Livestock, Fisheries & Cooperatives KP said that The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is now making every effort to improve the fisheries sector.
These include strengthening of infrastructure facilities, introduction of aquaculture techniques, improvement in post-harvest techniques; up gradation of economic conditions of the fishermen etc.
He further said that the he livestock provides nutritional food such as milk, meat, eggs, butter, and cheese for human beings.
The livestock sub-sector is vital for the economy as it provides essential raw materials such as hides, skins, wool, animal hair & bones for some of the domestic industries like carpets, rugs, leather and footwear, etc.
