They came. They saw. They scored. They went back. And Pakistan let out a deep sigh of relief. Not because we were happy to see the back of ‘Ronaldinho and friends’. But because the visit of seven iconic footballers passed without any security breach. This was a big deal. We weren’t able to protect the Sri Lanka cricket team back in 2009. Since then, only Zimbabwe has been sufficiently courageous to try its luck on Pakistani soil. And that, too, just for three days.
So, yes, having the opportunity to play host to some of the best that international football has to offer is something to be proud of. Not least because our guests were full of praise for the untapped local talent this country has to offer.
