PESHAWAR: An alert has been issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) warning of potential glacier lake outburst floods (GLOFs) in five districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to the PDMA alert on Thursday, there is a risk of glacier lake bursts in Upper and Lower Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Kohistan until July 1. The threat is linked to intense rainfall, which could trigger the bursting of glacial lakes in these mountainous regions. Authorities have been instructed to remain fully prepared to handle any emergencies resulting from the expected heavy rains. PDMA has also advised tourists and local residents to avoid unnecessary travel during the rain spells to prevent any untoward incidents. APP
