Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi has assured the Pakistan Physical Therapy Association (PPTA) of his support in resolving professional and registration issues faced by physiotherapy graduates, and said the matter would be taken up with the Allied Health Council and relevant federal authorities.
A PPTA delegation led by its President Dr Peerzada called on the governor at Governor House Peshawar on Thursday, a statement issued here said.
The delegation briefed the governor on problems being faced by graduates of the five-year professional Doctor of Physical Therapy degree, particularly regarding registration, employment opportunities and recognition within the health department.
The PPTA officials said graduates were facing hurdles in securing jobs in public hospitals and in getting timely registration, which was affecting service delivery in rehabilitation.
Speaking to the delegation, the governor said health professionals were a vital part of the national health system and addressing their legitimate concerns was the responsibility of relevant institutions.
“Physiotherapists provide essential services for patient rehabilitation and improving public health. Their issues deserve serious attention,” Mr Kundi said.
He assured the delegation that the concerns raised regarding the Allied Health Council would be formally conveyed to the council and to federal authorities to ensure a “proper and timely resolution.”
The governor added that strengthening allied health professions was key to building a more responsive healthcare system in the province.
