Governor visits Afghan Consulate to condole over deaths in earthquake

PESHAWAR, Oct 25 : Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Haji Ghulam Ali here on Wednesday visited the Afghan Consulate and met with Consul General, Hafiz Muhib Ullah Shakir. A statement from the Governor’s House, said the Governor expressed heartfelt sympathies over the deaths and destruction of over 50000 homes and buildings due to an earthquake in the Herat province of Afghanistan.

The Governor on his behalf and the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s extended condolences to the Afghan Consul General and said we equally share the grief of Afghan people and government at this critical hour. The Governor said Afghanistan was our brotherly neighboring country and both the people share the common moments of grief and happiness. The Afghan Consul General thanked the Governor for visiting the consulate and said we were thankful to the people and government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for sharing our grief and providing services and respect to the people of Afghanistan. The Afghan Consul General also shared his suggestions about repatriation of the Afghan people from Pakistan, upon which, the Governor assured to convey the same to the Prime Minister of Pakistan. Later, while talking to the media, Afghan Consul General said the reason for the Governor KP’s visit to the Afghan Consulate was to express condolence with Afghan people over losses of lives from the earthquake. He said that the repatriation of Afghan people from Pakistan was the decision of the Pakistani government adding that dignity and self-respect of the Afghans would be ensured during the repatriation process. He said the people of Pakistan especially from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa extended commendable hospitality to their Afghan brothers for decades as both the people have a relation of brotherhood and shared common traditions and culture. The Afghan Consul General said we would ensure that on repatriation, the Afghan people did not face hardships on arrival in Afghanistan. During the visit of the Governor to the Afghan Consulate, General Secretary of JUI, Maulana Atta ul Haq Darwaish and former provincial minister, Maulana Aman ullah Haqqani were also present. From the Afghan side Secretary Afghan Consul General, Maulvi Muhammad Raza Rehmani, Muhammad Tahir and Muhammad Saeed Hashmi were present.
