ISLAMABAD
Government has decided to scale up power tariff to obtain IMF package. Schedule for increasing per unit cost has been worked out under which per unit surcharge will be raised from Rs3 to Rs18. The power tariff can go up Rs23.40 per unit till the month of June if subsidy is withdrawn. The government has accepted IMF objection over the subsidy given to the consumers to reduce the per unit electricity cost low. IMF had rejected the objection raised by commercial and industrial consumers against surcharge.
IMF has not accepted Pakistan plea for adoption of soft policy on this matter.
