LANDIKOTAL
On the call of the All Government Employees Grand Alliance (AGIGA) government employees, teachers and officials from various departments staged a protest demonstration today at Bacha Khan Chowk in Landikotal Bazaar in support of their demands.
The protesters carried banners and placards inscribed with slogans in favor of employees’ rights. A large number of government servants from different departments participated in the demonstration and expressed concerns over rising inflation and economic hardships.
Addressing the gathering, speakers said government employees were facing severe financial difficulties due to the current inflation crisis, making an immediate increase in salaries and allowances unavoidable. They demanded that the house rent allowance should be revised according to the 2026 rates instead of the outdated 2008 rates. They also called for an increase in the disparity allowance in proportion to inflation and demanded that ad-hoc relief allowances be merged into the basic salary with a complete revision of pay scales.
The protesters further demanded tax exemptions for government employees, protection of pensions and increases in medical and conveyance allowances. They also strongly opposed the privatization of public sector institutions, stating that privatization would negatively affect both employees and the general public.
The protest was addressed by several leaders, including Sharifullah Afridi, Malik Nadir Shah, Khairullah and Ajmal Khan, along with representatives of Malgari Ustazan and other employee organizations.
The speakers warned that if the government failed to accept their legitimate demands, the protest movement would be expanded further across the province.
At the conclusion of the demonstration, participants appealed to the government to resolve the issues of government employees on a priority basis in order to reduce growing unrest among workers and public servants.
