Islamabad : Prime Minister’s Special Assistant Zulfikar Bukhari has said that the government is improving infrastructure of religious tourist sites across Pakistan.
He was talking to media persons after having informal discussion with the delegation of Sri Lankan Buddhist monks at Takht-i-Bahi, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa today (Friday).
The SAPM said infrastructure is being developed in cooperation with the World Bank under government’s religious tourism policy. He said as per vision of the Prime Minister we are currently working on creating a Holy Buddhist Trail, which will include the most revered Buddhist heritage sites in Pakistan. This could only be possible with the support of visitors.
Zulfi Bukhari urged the visiting delegation to bring more investment from their community to improve the facilities at all such sites.
He appreciated the KP government’s efforts for the preservation of religious sites in the province.
The ancient Buddhist monastery Takht-i-Bhai captivates a large number of locals and international tourists who flock to see the ancient site which dates back to early 1st century AD.
It is listed in the world heritage list and is considered the well-structured Buddhist monasteries in Gandhara district.
