A grand peace Jirga was convened at the Commissioner House, Kohat, to address the ongoing unrest in Kurram District and devise a path toward lasting peace in the areas.
According to an official handout, the Jirga brought together Sunni and Shia elders, along with key government officials, including Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (CS-KP) Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Akhtar Hayat Khan Gandapur, Commissioner Kohat Division Syed Mutasim Ballah Shah, and DIG Kohat Sher Akbar Khan.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Secretary Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry emphasized the critical need for measures to establish enduring peace in the region. He assured participants that anti-state and anti-people elements responsible for unrest would be brought to justice, with strict action taken against those inciting violence.
“The purpose of the Aman (peace) Jirga is to engage local elders and stakeholders to incorporate their wisdom and recommendations for achieving lasting peace in Kurram District,” said the CS-KP
He added that the government is committed to implementing the rule of law and restoring the state’s writ in the region.
CS Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry also condemned the recent violence, calling it unacceptable in any civilized society and reiterating the government’s resolve to prevent such incidents in the future.
The Commissioner Kohat Division announced that further meetings of the Aman Jirga would be held in consultation with all stakeholders to ensure a collaborative approach to peace building.
