Health minister chairs meeting of BOG, issues directives for improvement

A high-level meeting of the Board of Governors (BoG) of Qazi Hussain Ahmad Medical Complex, Nowshera, was held on Tuesday with Minister for Health Khaleequr Rehman in the chair, said a handout.
MPA Mian Umar co-chaired the meeting, which was attended by Secretary Health Shahid Ullah Khan, BoG Chairman Ashfaq Khattak and other senior officials.
The BoG chairman gave a detailed briefing on the hospital’s performance, challenges and future roadmap, highlighting that the medical complex is the only tertiary care facility in Nowshera, catering to a large population and providing essential healthcare services.
The health minister stressed the need for the newly constituted board to ensure visible improvements in the hospital’s functioning. He directed strict monitoring of doctors’ duty hours, availability of standard medicines, proper functioning of equipment and maintenance of cleanliness and discipline on the premises.
He warned that negligence or dereliction of duty would not be tolerated and instructed authorities to put in place an effective monitoring mechanism and take action against those found responsible.
The minister also emphasised the need to ensure a clean and patient-friendly environment and called for improved behaviour of staff and doctors towards patients.
He said the formation of the BoG would help expedite decision-making and bring the hospital in line with modern healthcare standards, adding that the ban on recruitment had been relaxed to address staff shortages.
He further directed that only medicines approved by the Medical Control Committee be made available at the SSP dispensary.
The BoG assured the minister that steps were being taken to bring improvement in service delivery and patient care, while the health department reiterated its support to strengthen healthcare services in the province.
