Health minister Syed Qasim Ali Shah on Friday inaugurated the District Health Information System (DHIS2) emphasizing the importance of digitizing the health system in the province.
He highlighted that DHIS2 is crucial for shaping the entire health system and commended the efforts of Director DHIS, his team, UNICEF, and HISP for their commendable work. The Minister encouraged partners to support the Health Department in digitalizing the remaining 22 districts.
DHIS2 is an open-source web-based platform used in over 100 countries to improve healthcare services through evidence-based planning and management. With UNICEF’s support, the Health Department has successfully launched DHIS2 operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The transition from DHIS to DHIS2 and achieving World Bank’s Disbursement Linked Indicators (DLI-6) was made possible by the DHIS Cell, DGHS, with UNICEF’s support.
UNICEF is supporting the launch in districts Battagram, Charsadda, Khyber, Kohat, and Swat, and has pledged to extend support to District Torghar. UNICEF has also equipped health facilities with modern gadgets and stationery and conducted capacity-building training.
UNICEF Health Team Lead, Dr. Inamullah Khan, termed the launch of DHIS2 a significant milestone for the digitalization of the Health Department. He praised the hard work of the M&E and DHIS teams and congratulated the KP Health Department on this achievement.
