Heroin recovered; ICT Police put peddler behind bars

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police’s Shehzad Town Police team arrested a narcotics peddler and recovered a total of 570 grams of heroin during an intelligence-based operation. An official told media on Thursday that the action was taken in continuation of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi’s anti-narcotics initiative Nasha Ab Nahi. Acting on directions of SP Rural Muhammad Shoaib and SDPO Shehzad Town Muhammad Inzamam Khan, SHO Shehzad Town Ashfaq Waraich led a special team to track down the suspect. He said the arrested suspect was identified as Abid Ali Abbasi, a resident of Barian Camp, Masoot, Tehsil and District Murree, who had been residing near Ziarat Stop, Sanam Chowk, Islamabad. The police recovered 570 grams of heroin powder from his possession. He added that FIR No. 1473/25 was registered against the suspect under Section 9(1)6(c) of CNSA at Shehzad Town Police Station, while further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain. SHO Ashfaq Waraich said that those poisoning the youth with drugs deserve no leniency and strict legal action will continue until narcotics elements are eliminated. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to Pukar-15 or the nearest police station.
