Homage paid to Fazil Rahu on 38th death anniversary

Iconic peasant leader late Shaheed Muhammad Fazil Rahu was remembered on the 38th anniversary of his death at a ceremony in Rahuki in Badin district on the other day. Politicians, poets, citizens and writers gathered at the late Fazil Rahu’s village to pay him homage.
Senior Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and former provincial Minister Sindh Muhammad Ismail Rahu has addressed the audience that Fazil Rahu was one of only a few leaders who had devoted his entire life for the rights of farmers, peasants and the working class.
During his speech at the ceremony, he said that his father stood firm against the rule of two dictators, despite all odds. He recalled that his father was at the forefront of the Movement for the Restoration of Democracy (MRD), along with Benazir Bhutto, during General Zia’s rule.
At present, when most of the people talk on pilfering Sindh’s water or making more canals but PPP opposes the construction of the canals. Mr. Rahu said that in clause 7 of the Pakistan’s Water Apportionment Accord of 1991, it is written that the members of ARSA will monitor the water distribution and the members will be taken from the provinces. The mangrove forests have been destroyed and it is mentioned in the ARSA Act that the water shortage will be shared, but when there is a shortage, only water of Sindh’s share’s being cut from 25 to 30%.
Mr. Rahu said that the CCI meeting has been demanded by PP, but it has not been implemented. He said that targeting PPP in the pretext of struggle against canals in Sindh is excessive.
On the occasion, senior leader of PPP Sindh, Aajiz Dhamrah, expressed that Shaheed Fazil Rahu was an outspoken leader for the country’s poor and laboring classes saying that Fazil Rahu was imprisoned several times throughout his lifetime for the achievement of the rights of the downtrodden people of Sindh. “Fazil lived and died for the people of Sindh and the rights of all underprivileged classes” Mr. Dhamrah said, reminiscing that he lived and died as a ‘brave man.
On the occasion, Rahu’s family members, along with his followers, laid wreaths and offered fateha on the grave of the late leader before attending a 38th anniversary of Shaheed Fazil Rahu held at his residence to pay homage to him.
When, MNA Haji Rasul Bux Chandio, MPA, Haji Taj Muhammad Mallah, Mir Allah Bux Talpur, MPA, Arbab Amanullah, Muhammad Aslam Rahu, Shahnaz Rahu, Haji Muhammad Nawaz Chandio and other leaders also addressed the anniversary ceremony.
The 38th death anniversary of Shaheed was attended by thousands of people including a large number of men, women, children and his followers.
