Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety Authority in operation in Swat confiscated more than 1500 rotten eggs to be used for bakeries and sealed two units.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety Authority sealed five bakery units and a warehouse in different districts of the province, including Swat, for violating hygiene norms.
A large consignment of rotten eggs was recovered during raids on bakeries in Odigram Swat, and more than 1,500 dirty eggs were seized from the warehouse, while two bakery units were sealed for using spoiled eggs.
The operation was carried out on the instructions of Director General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety Authority Shah Rukh Ali Khan, during which a large quantity of substandard bakery products were also recovered from the units.
In the operation, bakery owners were arrested and units were sealed. Strict action will be taken against violators, according to the Food Safety Authority.
Similar operations were carried out in other parts of the province, said a handout.
Various food-related businesses in DI Khan were inspected, a bakery unit was sealed for poor hygiene, while a pickle shop was sealed for violating hygiene norms.
The Food Authority also inspected various bakery units in Charsadda and Bannu.
During the inspection, two bakery units were sealed for use of expired edible oil and poor hygiene.
All the units were sealed during the inspection were found to be in violation of hygiene rules in the bakeries.
According to the Food Safety Authority, the violating bakery owners have been summoned to the office for further action.
