GILGIT, ; Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has said he some time takes very wrong decisions.
“I take too much wrong decisions some time. Major blunders were committed in awarding tickets in the past. The idea often hits the mind to whom ticket should have been awarded and to whom ministry should have been given. Some people come to power to server their personal interest”, he said this while addressing an inauguration ceremony of uplift projects in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) here Friday.
He said the former rulers go to London on Holidays. Their children and properties are outside the country. They come to power only to mint money.
He went on to say very small resources are left due to payment of installments of the loans. Demand for money comes from every where. Such like package for GB is big achievement. I pay tribute to Asad Umar for such package. It is big achievement to give such package in less financial resources.
He underlined “I had come to GB at the age of 15. Roads were in such condition at that time that only local drivers could drive vehicles on them. No one came here. This area was far from the world. Even the areas of this region were not connected with each other due to difficult roads.
Prime Minister Imran Khan announced a historic development package worth 370 billion rupees for Gilgit-Baltistan.
He said it is the first time that such a big amount will be used for the development of this picturesque and strategically located region.
The Prime Minister said the development package envisages hydel power generation and transmission projects, connectivity projects for tourism, youth skill and scholarship program, up-gradation of health system and water and sanitation projects. He said we will also support the development of small and medium enterprises in the area besides focusing on expansion of its infrastructure. He said it will be our effort to enable Gilgit airport receive international flights.
Highlighting the immense and diverse tourism potential of Gilgit-Baltistan, the Prime Minister said this development package will prepare the region to attract the tourists which will benefit not only the local people but the whole country. He was confident that exploiting GB’s tourism potential will make it self-reliant.
He however emphasized the need for promotion of tourism in a planned manner to cultivate its true benefits. He said the tourism in the region should not affect the forests and the mountains. He said the introduction of local government system in the region will help take forward the region.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed his commitment to transform the country by waging a successful struggle against the corrupt mafia. He said it is the first time that this mafia is being brought under the ambit of law.
GB is more beautify area than Switzerland, he said adding our rulers always ignored it. When tourism develops in GB,it will benefit the country enormously,
He stated “ I made choice for Khalid Khurshid as Chief minister of GB. Khalid Khurshid has always remained active in uplifting their area and nation.
Some people come to power to take personal advantage. They come to power and launder the money outside the country. Those who steal money and launder them abroad inflict double loss on the national exchequer, he added.
