The Insaf Doctors Forum (IDF) organized a province-wide event titled “Free Imran Khan for a Healthy Pakistan” in Peshawar here on Wednesday.
The event was attended by people from medical professionals across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The event underscored the role of healthcare professionals in advocating for democratic values and reform, while also focusing on critical developments in the health sector.
Advisor to the Health Department, Ihtisham Ali, attended the gathering as the chief guest, alongside MPA Naeem Khan, IDF Central President Dr. Mudir, IDF KP President Dr. Nabi Jan Afridi, elected cabinet members, MTI presidents, and doctors from multiple districts.
In a major development, several medical associations formally merged with the Insaf Doctors Forum, citing IDF’s commitment to medical ethics, healthcare reforms, and the welfare of the doctors’ community as key reasons behind their decision. Leaders of these organizations appreciated the IDF’s principled stance and announced their full support.
Speaking at the event, Advisor Ihtisham Ali highlighted the strategic role of IDF as the technical arm of the health department, stating “the Insaf Doctors Forum has been instrumental in implementing crucial healthcare reforms. Any organization sincerely working to improve healthcare delivery is a valuable part of our team.”
He announced that the recruitment of 1,000 doctors and paramedics across KP would be completed within two months, significantly enhancing the province’s medical workforce.
Ihtisham Ali also informed the audience that a large-scale revamp of non-teaching District Headquarters (DHQ) hospitals was currently underway. This includes upgrades to ensure the availability of specialists, fully functional ICUs, and better bed occupancy rates to meet the growing demands of patient care.
Commending the dedication of healthcare professionals, he said their performance amid resource limitations is “worthy of appreciation,” and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continue supporting medical staff across all tiers.
The event concluded with a renewed pledge from IDF and its new affiliates to work collectively toward healthcare excellence and democratic integrity in Pakistan.
