Says role of women in police would be encouraged

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Akhtar Hayat Khan has said pragmatic steps have been taken to empower women in different walks of life in the province, adding that the approval of gender equality post is an important development which would help the to protect the rights of vulnerable sections, especially children and women.
He expressed these views while addressing the launching ceremony of “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Women Police Support Platform” here on Wednesday.
The provincial police chief said that half of our population consists of women who demand that they should be adequately represented in all spheres of life.
He claimed that a lot of work has been done in this regard in KP but still efforts are needed for the betterment.
The IGP said that the number of women police in the police department is very low and all available resources are being utilized to increase the number.
Akhter Hayat said that it is good news that now women are joining the police department by qualifying the competitive examinations.
“Women are the valuable capital of our country and women will improve the service structure of the police and increase their quota and budget in the police department as well as create an environment where not only women can perform their duties effectively,” he said.
He KP women police are endowed with effective policing skills and by encouraging them, their abilities will be fully utilized in the department.
The IGP said that women police help desks have been established along with women police stations in the province.
Earlier, Rozia Altaf, Director of Women Police Support Platform, delivered a welcome speech and presented a detailed report on the aims and objectives of the platform.
