IGP-KP takes notice after senior journalist manhandled in Peshawar

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) took notice of the illegal dention and manhandling of a senior journalist by the Gulbahar Police Station.
According to a statement issued here on Wednesday, IGP-KP Akhter Hayat Gandapur sought a detail report from the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar about the mishandling of senior journalist and member of the Peshawar Press Club (PPC).
Moreover, the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) Worker wing president and senior journalist Shamim Shahid has strongly condemned the harrasment and unlawful detention of the senior journalist Saiful Islam Saifi.
The representatives of the union has demanded strict disciplinary action against the police officers responsible for the incident, Shamim Shahid said that the attitude of the SHO and officials of Gulbahar Police Station towards the senior and well-known journalist of Peshawar is an acceptable and the matter should be investigated as early as possible. The arrest of the senior journalists also reached KP Assemblyand its members condemned the arrest and demanded action against the policemen involved. Speaking on the floor of the house, the opposition members took up the issue and condenmed the Gulbahar Police Station for arresting former president of the Khyber Union of Journalists Saiful Islam Saifi.
It is pertinent to mention here that Saiful Islam Saifi, senioir member of the PPC was arrested and put him behined bars when was on his way to the press club.
The assembly members, representatives of PPC and PFUJ condemned the Gulbahar Police Station action against the senior journalist and demanded an inquiry and proper action against the station house officer concerned. The journalist community also condemned the incident and demanded action against the cops involved.
