IHC directs MCI to evolve policy for cart vendors

Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) to evolve policy for cart vendors.
The court has decided to hear central petition and contempt of court petitions simultaneously.
Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq remarked cart vendors related matter be resolved as per law and constitution. Their work is daily based work. It can not be done weekly.
He gave these remarks during hearing of contempt of court plea filed by cart vendors against CDA and MCI here Wednesday.
The counsel for petitioner, Imaan Mazari , director DMA and MCI appeared in the court.
Counsel Imaan Mazari said CDA too is party in the case. Authority is not issuing licenses to cart vendors.
Director DMA said they are not against cart vendors, They are working out procedure. CDA has said nothing to cart vendors since several years.
The court while moving to CDA director said you are saying you are doing act of kindness with them.
MCI authorities said we were saying plan be worked out and given to them for weekly bazaar. But they did not accept it.
Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan said the work of these people is on daily basis. This cannot be done on weekly basis.
Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan inquired how many cart vendors are there in Islamabad at present.
Counsel Imaan Mazari said there are 20000 to 21000 cart vendors in Islamabad at present.
The amicus curiae said 16 cart vendors have replied they are facing no problem. Neither any one has demanded money from them nor the shop keepers are facing any problem. There are some problems in I-10. Parking issue is also therein. Most of the people who are working there are those who have purchased land or have given others on contract. Chambers of commerce is also seeking time to give their stance.
The court adjourned the hearing of the case till June 13.
