Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered to appoint chairman of missing persons commission within four weeks.
Petition filed by wife of a missing citizen Omar Abdullah in connection with recovery of his husband came up for hearing before Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani of IHC Wednesday.
The court also directed to complete process of approval for financial assistance to applicant from committee within two weeks after the induction of chairman.
Additional Attorney General (AAG) told the court approval for financial assistance in respect of the applicant has been accorded. We will be able to move forward the proceedings in connection with financial assistance when new chairman is appointed. Chairman of missing persons commission is head of financial assistance committee.
The court inquired the process of appointment of chairman commission is at what stage.
AAG Rashid Hafeez said “ give time for 6 weeks. Appointment will be made.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani directed to bring cheque on next hearing after appointment of chairman and approval of committee.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani called son of missing person Omar Abdullah and got him seated on chair.
He remarked the tragedy is it this child has not seen his father so far and nothing is being told too.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani said court had issued order any information regarding missing persons be shared with the court. I want in camera briefing from representatives of committee of intelligence agencies.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani said state will have to tell how to deal with this problem. Paying compensation to this family is no solution to the problem. War is going on. State has its own several problems but even then this issue can be resolved.
He said some things can be shared and some cannot be shared certainly. According to my opinion the previous missing persons commission did no work.
The learned judge said I asked some questions from this child. He has given replies to all questions. These children have to take the control this country in future. We will come to know only when data and things are shared. This case is pending hearing in high court since last 8 or 9 years.
The court adjourned hearing of the case till June 24.
