IHC rejects van driver appeal plea against his conviction in sexual harassment case

ISLAMABAD, March 16 (Online): Islamabad High Court (IHC) has rejected appeal plea of convict in sexual harassment case and upheld the session’s court decision of imposition of 14 years imprisonment and fine on him.

The session court had convicted and awarded sentence of 14 years in jail and fine amounting to Rs one million to one Hamid Khan driver of van.
The appeal plea came up for hearing before IHC bench led by Chief Justice (CJ) Athar Minallah Tuesday.
According to FIR the harassment incident took place in the jurisdiction of Sabzi Mandi police on January 28, 2020. The driver harassed two 13 and 14 years old girls while taking them to madrissah from their homes. The girls were residents of I-10 sector Islamabad.

Additional Sessions judge Atta Rabbani awarded sentence to the culprit on January 18, 2021.

The convict had filed appeal in IHC against his conviction.

State counsel Danial Hassan told the court this is heinous crime and it was good thing that the girls told their parents about the incident. Police took immediate action and proceeded with the case swiftly.

The court upheld the sessions court decision after hearing the arguments of the lawyers.
