Mismanaged of district administration Peshawar and Policemen caused great damage to scenic International standard Hayatabad Cricket Stadium, which was recently completed with more than Rs. 2 billions for international cricketing activities under Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and International Cricket Council (ICC).
The International Cricket ground in Hayatabad Sports Complex was brought to the brink of destruction due to a wrong decision of the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner Peshawar wherein the baton charge of Police added fuel to un-control people’s mob during the free flour distribution point setup at the parking area of the Complex.
“We have given the parking area of the Hayatabad Sports Complex on the request of the district administration including Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner Peshawar,” Director General Sports Khalid Khan told APP. Secretary Sports is the focal person of the free flour distribution that is why the site was chosen as the distribution of free flour point setup inside the parking area of the Complex, an insider told APP.
He said the irritated mob of thousands of people entered into the newly constructed international standard cricket ground and started stoning the main pavilion made of imported glasses.
The mob broken the glass windows, chairs, main gate, and the recently prepared pitches, walls, glasses of windows, plants, cricket’s new pavilion in which foreign made glasses were mostly use were damaged besides walls penal and vehicles of the contractors were also damaged, Administrator of the Hayatabad Sports Complex Shah Faisal said during a visit to the site. Director General Sports Khalid Khan said: “I was informed about the damages to the newly constructed facilities by the administrator of the Hayatabad Sports Complex.” It will be equivalent to death of sportsmen of the city and the complex will not be able to do anything except car parking, the sports circles in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while showing resentment over the damage of the newly constructed Cricket Stadium, said
The Sports lovers have expressed their anger over the destruction of Hayatabad Sports Complex. Free flour distribution has been demanded to be stopped immediately. The people who came to Hayatabad Sports Complex to get flour clashed between the citizens and the police during Ramadan in the Hayatabad Sports Complex built by the government to get free flour.
They tried to forcefully enter, which the policemen deployed on the spot tried to disperse by throwing tear gas shells, which also led to vandalism. Still, the situation outside the Hayatabad Sports Complex is tense, Shah Faisal said.
Permission has been given by the Secretary Sports because he is the focal person of the free distribution of flour, an official confirmed. He said while clashes with Police people have damaged the Hayatabad Sports Complex, the residents of Hayat have demanded from the provincial government that the sports fields should not be used for activities other than sports according to the decision of the Supreme Court.
