Finance Minister (FM) Ishaq Dar has taken notice of smuggling of dollars,. Wheat and urea fertilizer.
It was told in the meeting held under Ishaq Dar different reports indicate that in return for smuggling of foreign exchange to Afghanistan foreign currency, wheat and urea were imported on higher subsidy from there.
The participants of meeting expressed surprise Urea, wheat and currency is being smuggled despite deployment of heavy contingent of civil, armed forces and customs personnel and erection of 2500 kilometer fence valuing over Rs 50 billion.
It also came under discussion that it is difficult to monitor such a longer border Despite it the smuggling should not have been allowed.
Ishaq Dar directed that all stake holders should take integrated steps keeping in view the sensitivity on the borders in the national interest besides their routine duty.
He underlined that all the institutions will have to play role together as no institution can overcome the situation without cooperation from others.
It was regretted in the meeting in the name of import of coal in local currency from Afghanistan outflow of a huge quantity of dollars to other countries is allegedly continuing.
The finance minister underlined the need for forging harmony among all necessary platforums to deal with the situation.
He directed the concerned authorities to evolve robust and active road map to curb border smuggling of different goods for sake of economic stability in the country.
