Joint action council says strike would be continued till faculty demands were not accepted
PESHAWAR
On the call of the Islamia College Teachers Association (ICTA) teaching and non-teaching staff continued their strike for the second day today in support of their demands.
The presidents of Peshawar University Teachers Association (PUTA) and Employees Federation also joined and supported the strike of ICTA. The teacher’s community alleged that historic Islamia College faced a number of issues due to mismanagement of the Vice-Chancellor.
According to Shah Nawaz Khan, secretary information ICTA, that university is using delaying tactics to regularize ad hoc employees, adding that a notification regarding 37 percent salaries raise was issued a year ago but did not implement so far.
The university prestige has been lost due to financial issues as the VC of the university was only focused to increase admission fees, he added. A joint statement issued by the ICTA here on Wednesday shared that academic activities remained suspended for the second consecutive day at the Islamia College University of Peshawar. The participants of the sit-in also demanded of the provincial government to establish a girls section of the Islamia College section.
The joint action council of the ICTA also announced that the teaching and non-teaching staff of the university would continue their strike and sit-in outside VC office till their demands were not accepted.
