Adviser to the Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting journalists, calling journalism a “sacred and responsible profession.”
Speaking at the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected Kohat Press Club cabinet, Dr. Saif pledged both financial and professional assistance for media workers. “Supporting journalists is my top priority,” he said, assuring full cooperation from the provincial government.
Press Club President Noor Muhammad Bangash thanked the government for a special grant of Rs. 10 million but highlighted the need for a media colony as a longstanding demand.
Mr Saif assured prompt resolution of media-related issues, promising all commitments would be honored “in letter and spirit.”
He also noted the establishment of a Digital Directorate to address challenges in the evolving social media landscape.
Commenting on the federal government’s refugee policy, Dr. Saif criticized the expulsion of Afghan refugees as “unjust and unfair,” calling it a violation of national and international laws.
However, he added that KP is assisting in the dignified return of refugees and encouraged the public to report concerns via the 1700 helpline.
On the issue of security, Dr. Saif urged the federal government to engage Afghan authorities directly regarding cross-border militancy.
He added that armed groups within Pakistan would be dealt with firmly, and said provincial police were being equipped with modern training and advanced weaponry to enhance counter terrorism efforts.
