PESHAWAR: The Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ) has strongly condemned the alleged abduction of Peshawar based reporter Irshadullah Khan from his residence by unidentified individuals and criticized the police for failing to register a First Information Report (FIR) in the incident. The union has called on the provincial government to take immediate notice and ensure the journalist’s safe return. In a statement issued from the union’s office, KhUJ President Kashifuddin Syed, General Secretary Irshad Ali, and other office-bearers expressed serious concern over the incident. According to Irshadullah’s brother, unidentified individuals in plain clothes forcibly entered their home during the night and abducted the journalist. The assailants, whose faces were covered, reportedly behaved aggressively with the family. The journalist community has labeled the abduction a blatant attack on press freedom and strongly criticized the police for not registering a case despite clear information. “The disappearance of a journalist from his home without any legal justification is alarming and unacceptable,” the statement read.
