Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar, observed October 27 as Black Day to express solidarity with the people of Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir and pay tribute to their continued struggle for freedom and the right to self-determination.
A solidarity walk was organized on the occasion, led by KMU Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rubina Nazli. Faculty members, officers, employees, and students of the university participated in the walk.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Rubina Nazli said that October 27 holds a significant place in the history of Kashmir as a day of mourning, marking the arrival of Indian forces in Jammu and Kashmir in 1947. She said that the Kashmiri people have been struggling for decades to secure their fundamental rights, freedom, and the right to self-determination. She emphasized that Indian oppression, repression, and restrictions cannot weaken the spirit of the Kashmiri people or suppress their aspirations for freedom.
Prof. Dr. Rubina Nazli urged the international community to play an effective role in ensuring the right to self-determination for the people of Kashmir in accordance with United Nations resolutions. She also called for concrete measures to safeguard human rights in the occupied territory.
She reaffirmed that Khyber Medical University supports the right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people and considers such occasions important for expressing solidarity with their legitimate aspirations.
