The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved three major development projects under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) framework to promote private investment and create jobs in the province.
The decision was made during a meeting of the PPP Committee, chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur. The meeting was attended by provincial cabinet members, the Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary, and other officials.
The projects approved include the Ghanol Integrated Tourism Zone, Draban Special Economic Zone, and PDA Commercial Complex.
Officials briefed the meeting that the Ghanol Tourism Zone will be developed under a design, build, operate, and transfer model. It will include modern tourism facilities and basic services. The project will have an initial lease period of 50 years, with an option to extend for another 50 years. The government and private partners will share the income from the project.
The tourism zone is expected to boost tourism, promote economic growth, and create job opportunities while protecting the environment.
The Draban Special Economic Zone will be built in three phases over 1,000 acres, including 722 acres for industrial use and 14.26 acres for commercial purposes. The total cost is estimated at over Rs 18 billion. The project is expected to directly create 40,000 jobs and indirectly create 120,000 more.
Chief Minister Gandapur said the projects would play an important role in promoting industry, tourism, and business in the province. He added that the government is encouraging private sector investment and will ensure that all PPP projects are completed on time.
He also called for reforms in the PPP system to make it easier for investors to take part in development projects with confidence.
