Minister proposes third-party validation amid alarm over high failure rate

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Monday referred the issue of a large number of students failing in this year’s matriculation examinations to the relevant standing committee, after opposition members raised concerns over alleged irregularities in results announced by educational boards across the province.
Raising the matter on a point of order, opposition MPA Arbab Usman described the outcomes as “alarming” and said the scale of failures warranted an immediate review.
He argued that the results had become a matter of public concern and that a transparent inquiry was needed to determine whether the examination process and compilation of marks had been conducted properly.
“The situation regarding the boards’ results is a serious public issue. We need to examine why so many students have failed and whether there are flaws in the results,” Mr Usman told the House. He urged the assembly to refer the matter to a committee for detailed scrutiny and remedial action.
Responding on behalf of the government, Provincial Minister for [portfolio not specified] Faisal Khan Tarkai acknowledged the concerns as “highly important and valid.”
He said the government would examine the rules for constituting an investigative committee or commission and assured the House that the matter would not be ignored.
Mr Tarkai endorsed the opposition’s call for scrutiny and proposed a third-party validation to ensure an impartial review of the boards’ results.
“This is an important public issue and requires practical steps for resolution. A third-party audit will help bring the facts to light in a transparent manner,” he said.
Following the discussion, the Speaker put the matter before the House, which approved its referral to the relevant committee for examination.
The debate comes amid growing questions over the matric results released by various educational boards in KP, where a notably high failure rate has sparked concern among students, parents and teachers.
