The Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO) and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening democratic institutions and addressing key governance and socio-economic challenges in the province.
The agreement was signed under the project titled *Strengthening Democratic Oversight, Institutional Oversight and Strategic Communication to Counter Terrorism in Pakistan*.
According to a statement, the MoU provides a framework for cooperation in areas including nutrition governance, migration governance, environmental justice, women’s empowerment and child rights.
Under the partnership, SSDO and the provincial assembly will work jointly to support parliamentarians and standing committees through policy research, evidence-based advocacy, legislative assistance, policy dialogues and technical support.
The MoU was formally signed at the office of the Speaker of the Provincial Assembly by KP Assembly Secretary Syed Wiqar Shah and SSDO Executive Director Syed Kausar Abbas in the presence of Speaker Babar Saleem Swati.
Officials said the collaboration would focus on policy research, consultative sessions, public awareness campaigns, legislative reviews and capacity-building initiatives aimed at improving governance and institutional responses to security and socio-economic challenges in the province.
Speaking on the occasion, representatives of both institutions stressed the importance of cooperation between parliamentary bodies and civil society organisations for promoting inclusive development, social protection and effective legislative oversight.
SSDO Executive Director Syed Kausar Abbas said the agreement would help bridge the gap between policy making and public needs by combining the assembly’s legislative role with SSDO’s research expertise and grassroots engagement.
He added that the partnership sought to support progress in democratic governance, counterterrorism and human development priorities in KP. The statement said the collaboration was expected to improve institutional coordination, encourage data-driven policymaking and enhance governance outcomes for citizens across the province.
