The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested a suspect, Abdul Majeed, for allegedly uploading and sharing obscene images and defamatory material of a woman’s daughter on multiple social media platforms between 2021 and 2022.
According to NCCIA, the suspect used fake and fictitious Facebook accounts to publicly share the images and sent them via WhatsApp to various individuals, including numbers registered in Saudi Arabia. The material was also shared with the victim’s husband and others in an attempt to defame the family and subject them to mental distress.
Investigators said the complainant’s husband had passed away years earlier, leaving her dependent on her only son, aged about 19-20. The continuous circulation of the images caused severe mental stress to the family. Distraught over the harassment and public defamation of his sister, the son died by suicide on May 25, 2021, leaving the complainant alone.
The suspect, who was residing in Saudi Arabia at the time, continued to share the material even after the suicide. Officials said he posted the images alongside photographs from the burial and sent provocative and threatening messages.
After completing the inquiry, NCCIA registered a case against Abdul Majeed. His national identity card and passport were seized, and Interpol was contacted for his arrest. He was later declared a proclaimed offender and his name was placed on the Exit Control List (ECL).
Upon his return to Pakistan from Saudi Arabia, immigration authorities detained him due to the ECL listing and informed NCCIA.
The agency formally arrested him after completing legal formalities.
Key digital evidence and the WhatsApp account used to disseminate the material have been recovered. The suspect was being produced before the relevant court today to seek a 14-day physical remand, while further investigation was underway.
