The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Wednesday unanimously passed two significant resolutions, one condemning Israeli atrocities in Palestine and another urging the federal government to extend the repatriation deadline for Afghan refugees.
The resolution on Palestine, jointly tabled by treasury member Abdul Salam and opposition member Adnan Wazir, strongly condemned the ongoing Israeli aggression against innocent civilians in Gaza.
It called on the federal government to take immediate diplomatic steps toward the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
The resolution further urged the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to convene an emergency meeting to develop a unified stance on the Palestinian issue.
It also called on the United Nations and other international organizations to ensure an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to the besieged population.
In a separate development, the assembly also unanimously adopted a resolution moved by PTI lawmaker Sharafat Ali, advocating for the extension of the repatriation timeline for Afghan refugees residing in Pakistan.
The resolution emphasized that Afghan nationals should be given adequate time to wind up their businesses and settle their assets before returning to their home country.
It stated that providing this time would help foster goodwill and strengthen ties of brotherhood and mutual trust between the people of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Both resolutions received cross-party support and were seen as a reflection of the province’s commitment to humanitarian values and regional solidarity.
