PESHAWAR: A major inquiry report against the Chief Librarian of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has come to light, proving allegations of holding a private job while in government service and tampering with his date of birth. According to the inquiry report, Dr Muhammad Ashfaq Ahmed was found to be simultaneously employed at Sarhad University while serving in the Department of Archives and Libraries from March 27, 2010 to August 13, 2021. The report further states that the officer changed his date of birth in official records from Feb 8, 1963 to April 25, 1971, as a result of which he continued in service even after completing his prescribed tenure.
As per his original date of birth, he had attained the age of 60 and stood retired in February 2023, but continued to draw salary and allowances afterwards.
The inquiry committee, on the basis of dual employment, violation of rules and alteration of date of birth, has recommended departmental action against the officer, including dismissal from service and recovery of salaries drawn from the public exchequer.
The committee has also recommended action against the former Director Archives and the District Accounts Officer, Swabi, for their alleged negligence in the matter.
It may be recalled that the said inquiry report was submitted to the provincial government in June this year.
