The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has reviewed proposals for establishing new double-shift schools across the province to accommodate increasing student enrolment and address shortages of classrooms and educational infrastructure.
The proposals were discussed at a high-level meeting titled “Double Shift Schools in KP” here on Wednesday, said a handout.
The statement said the meeting was attended by the Secretary Elementary and Secondary Education, Chief Planning Officer of the Elementary and Secondary Education Department and other officials, while all male and female district education officers from across the province participated through video link.
The meeting reviewed requests submitted by district education officers for the establishment of new double-shift schools in their respective districts.
Participants discussed the importance of the double-shift system in view of the growing number of students, limited classroom capacity and the need for optimum utilisation of available educational resources.
Officials said double-shift schools could enable more children to access education, particularly in areas where shortages of classrooms and other infrastructure were preventing the expansion of educational facilities.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the relevant authorities were directed to examine the requests submitted by the district education officers on merit and prepare recommendations for the immediate establishment of new double-shift schools.
The initiative, officials said, would help expand educational opportunities and promote equitable access to schooling for children across the province.
