The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Auqaf, Hajj, Religious and Minority Affairs Department has launched an initiative to improve educational facilities and establish modern libraries in registered seminaries across the province.
At a ceremony held at the Auqaf Department building on Monday, textbooks and library furniture were distributed among 210 registered seminaries in the settled and merged tribal districts of the province.
Provincial Minister for Auqaf and Religious Affairs Mohammad Adnan Qadri was the chief guest. Secretary Auqaf Atta-ur-Rehman, Chairman of the Mutahida Ulema Board Maulana Ehsan-ul-Haq and several religious scholars also attended the ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Qadri said the initiative was aimed at addressing the shortage of educational resources available to seminary students by providing them direct access to academic books and better learning facilities.
He said the establishment of dedicated library spaces would provide students with improved reading facilities and help develop their intellectual and research skills.
According to the minister, 140 of the 210 selected seminaries were located in settled districts and 70 in the merged tribal districts.
Under the current phase, each seminary is being provided with seven sets of officially approved textbooks. A total of 11,760 books are being distributed, with 1,470 books allocated to each of the eight academic levels — Ola, Sania, Salisa, Rabia, Khamisa, Sadisa, Moqoof Alia and Dars-i-Hadith.
The department is also supplying 2,940 pieces of library furniture. Each seminary will receive two bookshelves or almirahs, two library tables and 10 chairs.
The overall distribution includes 420 bookshelves or almirahs, 420 library tables and 2,100 chairs.
Secretary Auqaf and Religious Affairs Atta-ur-Rehman and Mutahida Ulema Board Chairman Maulana Ehsan-ul-Haq also spoke at the ceremony.
