Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Law, Human Rights and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Aftab Alam on Monday welcomed the Peshawar Anti-Terrorism Court’s dismissal of contempt petitions in the Radio Pakistan attack case, describing the decision as a victory for justice and the rule of law.
In a statement, the provincial law minister said the ATC had dismissed a contempt petition filed against Special Prosecutor and Additional Advocate General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Nauman Haq Kakakhel.
Mr Alam said he had remained committed to his constitutional and legal responsibilities throughout the proceedings and had defended his position before the court in accordance with the law.
He claimed that Mr Kakakhel, an advocate of the Supreme Court, had supported the cause of law and justice in cases registered in connection with the May 9 events, including those against Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and other party leaders.
According to the minister, the legal struggle was not aimed at providing immunity to any individual or group, but at ensuring that criminal proceedings were conducted on the basis of evidence, law and due process.
Mr Alam said the latest development in the Radio Pakistan case underscored the importance of transparent investigation, credible evidence and strict compliance with legal requirements in criminal proceedings.
“Truth cannot be defeated by temporary pressure or political allegations. Ultimately, it is the law and justice that decide,” he said.
He thanked his lawyers, colleagues, political leadership, party workers and the public for their support, and reiterated his commitment to strengthening the rule of law, ensuring access to justice and protecting citizens’ fundamental rights in the province.
The minister described the court’s decision as an important development that demonstrated the significance of upholding legal principles and due process.
