KP excise dept intensifies crackdown, large drug consignments seized

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department has intensified its province-wide crackdown against drug trafficking, carrying out successful operations in Dera Ismail Khan, Peshawar and Abbottabad, officials said.
According to details, the Excise Bureau of Intelligence and Investigation Dera Ismail Khan foiled an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of crystal meth (ice) on Daraban Road. During the operation, 6,500 grams of the narcotic were recovered from two women after a search conducted by a lady constable. The alleged main accused, Aqib Khan, a resident of Mardan, along with his female relatives, was arrested. Officials said the drugs were reportedly being smuggled to Islamabad and Lahore.
In another action in Abbottabad, excise officials recovered 2,438 grams of hashish near the Havelian Interchange and arrested two suspects. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
Separately, in Peshawar, excise intelligence personnel recovered 48,000 grams of hashish from a vehicle during an operation on the Northern Bypass. A case has been registered and investigations have been launched.
Officials said the operations were carried out under the directives of Minister for Excise Syed Fakhar Jehan, as part of the provincial government’s zero-tolerance policy against narcotics.
The department reiterated its commitment to continuing indiscriminate action against drug traffickers to eliminate the menace of drugs from society.
