The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa finance department has issued the No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the recruitment of 2,802 vacant chowkidars (watchmen) posts in the province’s elementary and secondary education sector.
The announcement was made during a meeting of the KP Assembly Standing Committee on Elementary and Secondary Education, presided over by Chairman Iftikhar Ali Mashwani at the Provincial Assembly Secretariat.
The meeting was attended by committee members, including MPA Muhammad Abdul Salam Afridi, Ahmed Kundi, Sharafat Ali, Asker Pervez, Ms. Asma Alam, Ms. Shala Bano, and Ms. Sobia Shahid, along with officials from the Elementary and Secondary Education Department, Law and Finance Departments, and Provincial Assembly staff.
During the session, the Education Department provided a detailed briefing on 2,914 vacant watchmen posts, confirming that NOCs have been issued for 2,802 posts, while approval for 112 posts in the merged districts was still pending.
The committee emphasized that these Class IV positions should be filled promptly, giving priority to local residents and including landowners who contributed land for schools.
A progress report on the recruitments was directed to be submitted in the next committee meeting.
Committee members also raised concerns about the deteriorating condition of government schools across their constituencies and urged the Education Department to take urgent measures to safeguard the future of students.
The committee reviewed the e-transfer formula and stressed its complete implementation.
The Secretary of Elementary and Secondary Education reported that warnings have been issued to headmasters of schools with results below 40 percent, and conferences have been organized in Peshawar, Abbottabad, and Mardan to address performance issues.
Issues regarding the condition of schools in Swat, Swabi, and other districts, as well as employee quota matters, were also recorded during the meeting for follow-up action.
