KP Food Minister calls on Nutrition International delegation

The provincial minister for food, agriculture, livestock and forests Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Asif Rafiqu on Monday met with representatives of Nutrition International in Peshawar and discussed nutrition projects in the province.
The delegation led by Global Director Kristen Jo AN briefed the provincial minister on the nutrition situation in the province and promotion of awareness activities.
Senior officials of Nutrition International Pakistan and KP were also present on the occasion.
Caretaker minister Asif Rafiqu that balanced diet is the need of every individual, in this regard more awareness should be given regarding taking care of the nutrition of newborns and lactating mothers.
He said that the public sector hospitals have been directed to take pragmatic steps to encourage parents of new-born children and pregnant women to eat a balanced diet for the formation of a healthy society.
Asif Rafiqu maintained that timely elimination of harmful food will be ensured to people. He also appreciated the efforts of Nutrition International to highlight the importance of a balanced diet and promote nutrition.
The provincial minister assured the delegation for consultation on a draft for approval of the implementation of mandatory food fortification and cost transfer mechanism after discussion with the department concerned.
