Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Agriculture Minister Major (retd) Sajjad Barakwal announced that the provincial government’s new Annual Development Program (ADP) will focus on farmer welfare and robust agricultural development. Speaking at a press conference in Peshawar on Monday, alongside Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram, Barakwal emphasized that significant steps would be taken to enhance agricultural productivity in the province.
He revealed that new varieties of seeds are being introduced to boost crop yields and that free seeds have already been distributed to farmers in seven districts. Plans are underway to extend seed supply to other districts soon. The minister highlighted that the upcoming ADP would feature initiatives aimed at providing maximum relief to farmers.
One such initiative is a kitchen gardening project, which will provide schoolboys and girls with training on growing vegetables in small spaces. This initiative aims to help families grow their own vegetables, contributing to local food security.
Barakwal further reiterated that, in line with the vision of PTI founder Imran Khan and the guidance of the Chief Minister, all available resources are being utilized to improve crop production and address the challenges faced by landowners and farmers in the province. The Minister stressed that these measures reflect the government’s commitment to the agricultural sector and the well-being of the farming community.
