The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is mulling over establishing its own insurance company to support and reform the provincial government health card program.
This was stated by the advisor to the Chief Minister on finance Muzamil Aslam while briefing the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly’s standing committee on finance here on Wednesday.
He said the company would be the first of its kind to ensure support for the health card plus initiative and focus on various insurance measures aimed at improving public welfare.
Muzamil Aslam also shared that over Rs30 billion rupees have been allocated to the health card plus program in just nine months. This initiative provides free healthcare services to the underprivileged population of the province.
Aslam noted that this is the same province where the health card facility was removed during the caretaker government’s tenure, but it has now been reinstated.
To enhance transparency and eliminate potential corruption in the health card plus program, the government was introducing a biometric verification system for treatment; he said and added that the system was expected to ensure that the benefits reach those who genuinely need them, preventing any misuse.
The meeting, chaired by MPA Arbab Usman, was attended by the Provincial Assembly lawmakers including Shafiullah, Ashfaq Ahmed Khan, Nisar Baz and Abdul Moneim.
Finance Secretary Amir Sultan Tareen, Special Secretary Finance Budget Khuda Bakhsh, Special Secretary Finance Regulation Abidullah Kakakhel, CEO Sehat Card Dr Riaz Tanoli and others attended the meeting.
